Lady Gaga to receive fashion award

Lady Gaga is known for being very experimental with her choice of accessories and this coming Monday she will be presented a profound fashion award.

Designer Marc Jacobs will be awarding Gaga with the Stylemaker award at the 13th annual Accessories Council Excellence Awards which are being held in New York.

Many people may think of Gaga’s fashion sense as outrageous and mad but obviously the fashion world see her artistic ways as a new refreshing sense of style. Marc Jacobs who is a new friend of the multi-talented star said “I’d never say no to Gaga” when she played at his after party back in September.

I must say I am quite excited to see what Gaga will be wearing at this event.

Other honorees include Diane Von Furstenberg, Burberry and V magazine.

Tutus, Art & Awards...

And the 2009 Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in Fashion goes to the...

Brilliant Betsey Johnson. New York fashion designer received the fabulous award at this years National Arts Club dinner. Some would say that it's about time she finally won as she has been a fashion designer for over 40 years. One of her models was the iconic Andy Warhol's superstar Edie Sedgwick back in the swinging 60's.
A portrait of the designer will hang up at the NAC company to honor her achievements. If you were unaware of BJ's creative mind and fabulous creations you may think she is mad to show up at a black tie event wearing what could be described as the contents of a child's dressing up box, but that is a reason people love her. She's unique, an original wild child.

When B won the award she gushed “It’s the biggest, best, fair-square celebration from the last place I’d dreamt of, It’s the big bang.”

Fabric Moment - Lace

When you see a spider skipping across the floor you may scream. Nobody really thinks about the amazing detail they put in to make their wonderful webs. Spider webs remind me of lace. Delicate and detailed. Would you squash a designer for making intricate lace dresses? I don’t think so.

The wonderful fabric that is known to us as lace has been around for centuries yet maintains an elegance that the 21st century can still relate to and have use for. Lace goes as far back as 1600 B.C where vases beside Egyptian coffins had modano (knotted mesh netting) on them. Although this delicate vintage fabric was already centuries old in the 16th century, patterns were only then available (from Flanders & Italy).

Although many may think of lace as an 1980’s fashion statement or perhaps disaster, it wasn’t Madonna’s lace gloves that made the luxurious fabric popular. In past centuries the romantic material was considered fine art, therefore her influences, would have been from former centuries.

While some of you may think of lace as a net you see up at a granny’s window or draped over their dining tables many designers are recreating the vintage look. I’m indulging myself (by fixing my eyes on my laptop) in the Valentino Spring/Summer 2010 collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli.

Lace is even making its debut within the beauty industry, many celebrities such as Blake Lively and Jennifer Lopez have been seen sporting lacey nails.

I think lace is delicious and I have a funny feeling that the fabric will be recreated for many more centuries to come.

tell me a story...

The reason I must write isn't because Rainer Maria Rilke gave me the urge to after reading his inspirational letters. It's just simply because I must write a 150 word blog for five long weeks for uni. Fabulous.
So I'm looking for amazing things to write about. Time to find inspiration. mwah xo
